Solidarity March Partner Highlight: DJ Ampero

Six days ’til the regional solidarity march! Seven marches in seven countries in the Caribbean will #ReclaimOurStreets from sexual violence. Hollaback! Bahamas has a great afternoon planned, from the march starting at Potter’s Cay to the speaker line-up and free workshops on The Dundas Centre for the Performing Arts grounds on Mackey Street. We’re creating a safe space for conversation, story-sharing, skill-building, and healing. To do this, we need the perfect atmospheric balance, and we’re fortunate to have a partner with the skills, equipment, feminism, and interest to keep the energy high at our post-march expo with music.

Under the moniker, DJ Ampero, Arthol Gibson started his career playing for small parties and get-togethers with friends in 2005. Since then, he has held several residencies at local dive bars and night clubs and become a staple in the local art & fashion scenes.

Touted as one with an eclectic style, DJ Ampero brings a unique blend of variety, energy, nostalgia and unforgettable vibes with his sets. His style incorporates live remixes and mash-ups of contemporary hits as well as classic tracks across all genres. It was a mixtape of this particular style that propelled him into the fashion circuit and granted him the title of Official DJ for Fash|Art — a quasi-annual competitive exhibition of Bahamian fashion and art.

DJ Ampero’s growth and mixtape library has also positioned him as the host of Shore Music, a mixtape of new Bahamian talent curated by Stylezine Magazine — a local lifestyle publication. With each new mixtape and mix series release, he continues to be a key fixture in the House, EDM and Alternative Music scene in The Bahamas.

Hollaback! Bahamas is looking forward to the feminist mix DJ Ampero will bring to The Dundas Centre for the Performing Arts grounds on Saturday, March 11 for the post-march expo. Sneak a listen to a specially curated mix by DJ Ampero here. For more details on the regional march of solidarity and the activities planned for Nassau, Bahamas, check out the Facebook event page.
